schools!!!

Schools: Nowadays schools have radiators , central heating and in hotter country's air conditioning. Schools in the 1940's-1960's only had fires in there rooms for heating and each child had to bring a sod of turf for the fires. The rooms were so small that if to classes were in one classroom only one class could sit down at a time. Teachers and pupils: I'm sure you all know some stories about teaches back then used to cane children , clout children and even kick them.Well it's true! Some people from that time still have tracks of the cane on various parts of their bodies.If there were nuns in the class or school the too would cane the children.School life: The families back then generally didn't have much money so from around November children children went to school bare footed . some of the teachers gave a prize of a half crown [about 15cm nowadays] for the first boy to turn up barefooted.The children were from 14-16 years old when left they school which had around 7 classes.
