1940's Childhood toys-summary

In the 1940's, most toys were made from wood and tin, unlike how now most toys are made of
plastic, which was only introduced into toys in the 40's.
Most children only got new toys or games on their birthday or Christmas, and if otherwise it was a rare treat, or special occasion. But now kids get new toys all the time, and if anyone was wanting to go to town to shop in the weekend back then, you couldn't, because all of the shops would be closed.
My grandma told me that when she was a child, she got a girl's comic, every week. A popular toy for girls to play with in the 40's were paper dolls. Most girls would cut out a person to be their doll and then make clothes to fit.
I have learnt that toys in the 40's were a lot simpler than toys today.
